got this and several other dvd's for xmas.

This remake, starring mark wahlberg, isn't bad but is headed for the cult follower bin most likely. That happens when Tim Burton directs your movie. It takes some scenes from the original with charlton heston and utilizes them in a decently humorous way.

Heston has a cameo in it as one of the apes.

I never saw the original. I agree, a decent movie, but not one I would go out of my way to purchase or watch. But I did like that girl in the movie, whose name now escapes me... man, those lips... Estella Warren, right?
