Let me clear away some of the smoke for you:

What we see being demanded today by the Left is the abolition of the Electoral College, thereby effectively allowing a few, high-density urban areas - always solidly Democrat - to decide who our president will be and in many cases, even most other representatives in House and Senate. It clearly disenfranchises the vast areas of lower populated states. My state has fewer than 10 million people. States like NY and CA have that many in a couple of their cities. In America, states that perceive they have no voice in lawmaking will make their voice heard in other ways. Be careful what you wish for.
