Over many years I have accumulated some fairly nice religious articles. I and my family are Catholic and I have a couple of "Extreme Unction kits" (so to speak), including an ornate cross, candles, a bottle for holy water, etc. A few generations ago, every Catholic household had one of those for the times when a priest would be called to the house to visit someone who was dying - back when people died at home, and not at the hospital.

I have a couple of nice gold crucifixes, and a St Joseph Daily Missal, which old folks would remember.

I don't want to get any money for these, just pass them along to someone who would want them and not sell them for scrap.

Any suggestions?

Ask your priest if he knows of anyone who can use them.

My fellow members of Altar Society know EVERYTHING about such matters.

Also, is there a monastery or convent near you? They may have ideas.

I was so thrilled when I got my St. Joseph Missal! It's a slow learning process for a newly confirmed Catholic.

Good luck.

About all I have is the pocket Testament issued to my Uncle when he was in the Army.

It's the only personnel item besides his uniform the Germans let him keep at Bad-Orb after his capture.

I stuck it in with his coffin flag when my dad made a case for it.

BTW.....Anyone know what to do with the flags? Anyone that remembers him besides myself is dead.

My mom kept my dad's flag forever, until I'm guessing one of my brother's stole it and pawned it, probably.

I'd give my husband's flag to the American Legion or give it to a local Veterans' Center, to give to someone who deserves it. I kept the three shells that the Marine Guard gave to me after his salute, and they're in the case with his flag.
