Just because you take care of yourself does not mean you don't have compassion for others. It does not mean you discuss differences with other. You don't say my way is the only way.

Yes. And the most conservative thing a government can do is invest in its citizens. This means the government invests in things that allow people to become more self-reliant. Things like livable wage legislation, affordable housing, education, and health care.

People should seek to be self-reliant without government help. They can start by taking better care of their health. Relying on government leads to dependence on government. The government should be chastising the citizens, not catering to their every misguided wish.
