Steve Jobs got the idea for the GUI for the Macintosh computer from Xerox, they just gave it to him. Bill Gates' idea for Windows from Steve Jobs, though much more underhanded.

John Williams noted the score from the film King's Row as the inspiration for the theme of Star Wars.

Post up other notable films, songs, scores, tv shows, or other art that was inspired, copied, or stolen from previous work.

Unless they have been sued, I would use the word inspired by, not stolen.

Williams is well known for often "borrowing" just short of plagiarism.

Many artists are, many actors, directors, producers. Some of them admit they steal regularly, though they change the presentation of the idea enough so its hard to recognize as stolen or they buy the idea from an author, sometimes whom is paid to write the screenplay. Spielberg admits when he's making a movie sometimes he'll go home and watch other movies to get ideas. The story for Close Encounters has elements of a sci-fi story published in the 50's.
