ESTACADA, Ore. — In December of 2019 there were more than 8,000 substitute teachers in Oregon. Now that number is just under 5,000.

In response, the state Teacher Standards and Practices Commission filed a temporary order to establish emergency substitute teacher licenses.

Under this order, the only requirements are for candidates to be 18 years of age and older and undergo a background check.

That's getting a mixed response from parents.

Districts will be expected to pay for these emergency licenses, certify specific administrators to support these candidates, and supervise the performance of these substitutes.

The communications director with the Estacada School District said there will still be standards.

“We will still have safe, trustworthy adults in the schools. They still have to go through a background check. We also have really rigorous check-ins. We have people walking past your child’s classroom all day long," Maggie Kelly said.

This means not having Graduated from High School! And no teaching experience AT ALL!!

Bad decision....COME ON! Who continues to say that along with making continued BAD DECISIONS for our country, and goes unchecked and unchallenged, especially by our NEWS MEDIA?

It doesn’t say what the “background check” entails. They probably would allow convicted pedos to teach.

What makes you think that any substitute teachers have teaching experience? I was a substitute teacher for 6 months, with a college degree, and a good background check. Most of my assignments were in elementary schools where I was the only male over the age of 12 in the building.

And now you can claim the right has no humans with that type of orientation, just as you are proof that the Oxford comma is a foreign object to yous.
No one on the right pushes the homo Agenda. If they are closet homos, they aren’t conservative, they are lefties pretending to be on the right.

The Uber progressive Oregon had always been victimized by its addiction to the lowest common denominator. Not that any of them even know what that term means anymore.
