Trump Shifts Deportation Focus, Pausing Most Raids on Farms, Hotels and Eateries

The Trump administration has abruptly shifted the focus of its mass deportation campaign, telling Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials to largely pause raids and arrests in the agricultural industry, hotels and restaurants, according to an internal email and three U.S. officials with knowledge of the guidance.

The decision suggested that the scale of President Trump’s mass deportation campaign — an issue that is at the heart of his presidency — is hurting industries and constituencies that he does not want to lose.

Are we now to believe it's more important to keep agribusiness' profits safe than the nation?

My assumption is Trump wanted to prioritize gang members and criminals and ICE has just decided they are not going to sort between them---they'll harvest the whole lot of them.

We've seen this claim over and over, that deportation is hurting the farmers, by taking away their free and frightened workforce.

But we've seen no evidence of it.

It also defies common sense. How did Biden deport "more illegals than Trump" and not hurt the farmers, while Trump's focusing on illegal aliens who committed heinous crimes after the crime of illegal entry does?

Why do you oppose farm workers being paid a living wage? I'm willing to pay a little extra for my food, so farm workers can have humane conditions. Why would you be willing to pay more for "cage-free" eggs, but get so angry that the near-slave conditions of farm workers may be improved?

Then why did he suspend raids on agriculture?
He, Kristi Noem, and Tom Homan, have said over and over that they will prioritize deporting the most violent of criminals - who commit crimes apart from illegally entering the country, such as Van Hollen's crush.

I don't know why you are mystified that they are doing exactly that.

Well . . . yes, I do.

You have to wonder about the sanity of leftists. For years they said who will pick cotton if we don't allow slavery. Now they say who will work on farm if we don't have illegal aliens. They just want to keep their vassals while trying to sound sympathetic.

The left is the party of slavery and segregation. Yep, they don't want to have to pay their cotton pickers. Some things never change. It's a good thing more people are finding out about their egregious and sordid history.

Farm owners, mostly GOP, say that, not the Dems.
