Yesterday Scooter Gennett did something only seventeen players in Major League Baseball history have ever done and that is hit four homers in one game. The young lad is not known for his power and that game will be one he will never forget because of the fact he also netted ten runs batted in.

He also became the first Red to hit four dingers in a game which is amazing seeing the Reds are the oldest Baseball Franchise...

Sports world reacts to Scooter Gennett's four-homer game

Yep I'm a Reds fan and I was watching last night. It was insane. Only 5'10" and 193 pounds, and is now the only player in MLB history to have 5 hits, 4 homeruns, and 10 RBIs in a single game. A couple of other cool facts. He was born in Cincinnati, and that the Reds are the MLB's oldest team yet Scooter is the first 4 homerun hitter in the franchise's history. That's a history that includes such great power hitters as Frank Robinson, Ted Kluszewski, Tony Perez, Johnny Bench, George Foster, Dave Parker, Eric Davis, Adam Dunn, and Ken Griffey Jr.

I know how amazing it has to be on a short list of great power hitters and be the most unlikely one too do what he did. I bet that game was great last night. I rooted for the Reds during the 70's, 80's and 90's when the Cubs were not in the run for a playoff spot.

Foster and Davis and the Kid ( Griffer Jr. ) could not do it and yet Scooter could and in that park you would have thought Dunn or Bruce would have done it before Scooter...

What if Pete Rose did it and it didn't get counted?

Jay Bruce or me?

If me then it would never happen even if the fence was five feet from where I was hitting... Ok that is a lie but at the Show it would have never happen and as for Jay Bruce he could have done it or even Dunn...

I hated to see Dunn not reach 500 HR. He retired at 462. if 2011 hadn't been so bad, and he had played one more year, he could have gotten there. A lot of people give him a hard time for his strike outs, but he had a career OBS of .364 which is pretty damn good for a power hitter and a career .237 BA.

He might get into the HOF through the Committee down the road or in one of those off years where there is no clear HOF candidate.

He was a strikeout machine but also walked like crazy and the power was nuts. The worst power hitter I ever saw that either he smashed it out or was struck out was Rob Deer and Dunn was nowhere near that bad...

Deer was bad, but Dave Kingman was probably the worst, and as a Cubs fan you saw plenty of him.

lmao I just looked up Kingman's stats and they are almost identical to Dunn's except the OBS. Kingman had 442 HR and had a career average of .236.

Did you know that Deer's career high HR in a season was only 33? He didn't hit as many as I thought, but he did hit them far.

Pete Incaviglia is up there too as far as guys that could hit huge homers but striked out a lot.

I hated Kingman when he played for the Lovable Losers. He was so arrogant even if he was a great power hitter and was terrible in the field. Those were some bad time being a Cubs fan but hey it was fun to watch the days of Sandberg or Lenny Randle playing third base in those really bad years.

I am sure you are not too happy right now with the Reds but they should be on the upswing soon and hopefully Scooter stick around because his type usually make great Managers.

Scooter is only 27. He's only been in the big leagues for 4 years believe it or not. The Reds have some great young pitchers and as long as Votto and Cozart don't tank in the next 3 years, they should be a playoff team in the next 2 years. I just wish the Reds had paid Cueto instead of Homer Bailey with the large contract.

Out of the current Reds, I could see Arroyo was a Pitching coach eventually as long as he doesn't continue on to be a musician instead.

My point with Scooter was those are the guys that after their playing days they make great managers. Scooter seem like the type that will get you that key hit in the playoffs and win the game for you or rally the guys with that one speech that is needed. I like the kid and believe his future is as a manager.

"Unlikely" indeed. Just the fact that he goes by the name "Scooter" tells you that.

Gennett singled in the first before the next four dingers, going 5-for-5. In doing so he became one of a handful of players who have ever hit four homers in four consecutive at-bats, joining the likes of Mantle, Greenburg, Gehrig, Kiner and Pujols.

Trivia -- who's the only player who ever accomplished that feat twice?

Mike Schmidt 4/17/76 and 7/6-7/7/1979 (two games)

No one ever has hit five homers in five consecutive ABs. The whole world will be watching.
Scooter should be watching too -- his head.

Mike Schmidt was born in Dayton, Ohio. There just must be something in the water around there. :D

Yeah and apparently Scooter's from Cincinnati.
I'm about to start another thread about Schmidt, speaking of something in the water......
