This week, a law signed by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul went into effect obliging fossil fuel companies to pay $75 billion over the next 25 years to help pay for climate change damages to the state. The law is similar to one passed last year in Vermont.

um, people buy fuel to get to work and heat their homes and it's their fault and they must pay damages for a legal product? LOL

that is just insanity, maybe trump can get that thrown out or it can go to scotus to be tossed

/—-/ It keeps the money flowing in from the Environment Wacko donor base. It doesn’t matter if it’s tossed.

If I were the oil and gas companies, I would simply pull all business from those states. Let them figure out how to function with no fossil fuels

Agreed! 100%

But the oil and gas companies don't pay for this theft. They raise the prices of oil & gas on YOU AND ME! WE PAY FOR IT!

KEEP VOTING DEMOCRAT!

My immediate reaction was the same. I even posted a thread on it.

But, instead, the companies will simply pass the increased cost along in the form of higher pricing, as a cost of doing business.

It will be the residents of NY State who pay this crap in the form of higher price per gallon at the pumps. With any luck, Hochul’s idiotic act will give NY the highest price per gallon in the nation.

How is this even legal?
it's likely not just like southern edison is not has lawsuits their power lines caused the fire when CA would not allow them to bury the cables as I have read but it's their fault people want and need power

always somebody to blame who has $$

horse and buggy because even EV's use 99% fossil fuels because nuclear is bad

Freaking left wing hypocrites survived the last hundred years of winters because of fossil fuels and now they want to extort millions from the industry. No surprise here.
