With those underwhelming wages, it's no wonder they want us to pay off their student loans. Some chose poorly.

To the leftists STEM is a trade school mentality. They feel liberal arts and social sciences teach people how to think.....Again....Poorly.

Attending College used to be a key to the American Dream. Your ticket to success.

I paid for four years of college working minimum wage jobs in the summer. Once I graduated I earned enough to buy a new car and a house after six years.

Todays kids have no such guarantees
Massive debt upon graduation, move back in with your parents, starting salaries that don’t allow you to get started in life

Maybe it's that I'm out of touch, but that spreadsheet shows a pretty good picture. Degreed people have a very good employment rate, and lots of them end up working in unrelated fields, but don't suffer for that.

My degree was in Penology, but by the time I graduated I knew enough about prison and jail work to know that working in the justice system was not for me, so I went to law school and became a contract attorney, which suited me fine.

LOL....I had a crash course in "penology".

Image if you will, a just turned 19 year-old in his finest disco era attire showing up for his first day on the Unit, being handed a Remington 870 shotgun, and told to go man the tower.

Shit, I was not even sworn-in or issued a uniform yet!

I remember the Sgt. asking me if I knew how to use the 870 and when I answered in the affirmative he said just shoot anyone crossing the dead line without permission....Talk about your steep learning curve!

LOL....At least the convicts had the good sense to avoid the area like the plague.

And liberal policies are why.
1) Just like the housing market - the liberal government starts throwing money at colleges with no strings attached and no thought process. Just keep throwing more money no matter how bad students were failing classes. And that wasn't enough. Let's also finance their housing and room and board!! So colleges got into the housing market and started building quad apartments and charging exorbitant, downright criminal high rent. So what did liberals do? Let them borrow more.
Liberals caused tuition to sky rocket and near unlimited loans given no matter how bad students were falling.
2) And what was the liberal answer to the problem they created? Cancel student loans and just pile it on the debt clock.

You are presenting a chicken or the egg scenario

Loans went up because tuition went up

I blame conservatives who cut back on subsidies to state colleges. Some used to be free and most were low tuition

On reason is houses became investments. instead of a place to live in and even depreciates to some degree.

I'm currently doing about 60K - 70K worth of home improvements on a home I built in '92.

No shits given about an investment....I just want it up to snuff to last me till I die. The kids can fight over it as an investment after I take my dirt nap. ;)

I'm also working out a deal with the Isaak Walton League on my river property. I look to sell it to them for a dollar (or the minimum the law allows) for lifetime interest in, and access to it. They can't sell it till I die and must pay any fees tied to the transfer.

It’s amazing how expensive college became when the government decided to help make it affordable.

Actually it was more affordable when there was more government aid

In the 1970s Republicans slashed state and federal aid to colleges
Students had to make up the difference
