Not Me.

Cremation is replacing traditional burials, but why?

I get a parade with a Naw'lins marching jazz band. :113:

Funny! I just noticed you have "Paladin of the Lost Hour" just underneath your avatar pic and your name. Have you had this for awhile or is this something new? The reason I ask is because I'm a fan of Harlan Ellison's writing and especially love his story, "Paladin of the Lost Hour".

Been there since I joined. Ellison was an amazing entity. Was fortunate enough to sit and talk with him for a time over a Tex-Mex dinner when he was on his "Dream Corridors" tour.

THAT must have been an interesting experience. I met him twice at lecture/book signings, was able to ask him a few questions and he signed several books for me. And my most prized possession is his compact disc version of him reading 'Paladin of the Lost Hour", which he signed.

Have you seen the old "Outer Limits" adaptation with Danny Kaye? Not too shabby. You can find it on youtube.

I've seen it. I believe it was a revamped Twilight Zone episode in the 1980's. It IS quite good.

Ah, Twilight Zone. Yes.
I believe the Outer Limits DID feature a couple of Ellison's stories. I know for sure that "Demon With a Glass Hand" was an episode and I believe Robert Culp starred in it.

The Outer Limits reboot did "The Human Operators", a collaboration with A.E. Van Vogt.

The original also did "Soldier".

Don't worry, Bill, the choice will be made for us all. We will all be cremated whether we like it or not in about 5 billion years when the Sun expands into a red giant. ;)

Our atoms will have been reused millions of times before that happens.

Not mine! I plan on being buried in a big Tupperware with the freshness burp! o_O Seriously, wherever our atoms are, in about 5 billion years, they are all going to get shaked and baked. Which is just fine, because long long ago, they originally came out of some solar furnace to begin with.

God, the Ultimate Recycler.

Or have someone SMOKE your ashes like Keith Richards SUPPOSEDLY did with his father's.

Hello, Freak. I'm willing to wager over the next 5 billion yrs Earth will experience several devastating collisions that will end human kind well before our Sun bakes us.

Peace.

My friends call me Toob. And you are right. Over the next 5 billion years, the Earth will be impacted several times each all but extinguishing life on Earth unless we are wise enough and lucky enough by then to have focused on developing a way to early warn and deflect such massive collisions. Meantime, spread out and colonize the Moon, Mars and elsewhere too.

Then in the end after all that and man in long gone, whatever remains of our dust and atoms, the Sun will have the final say and cremate all that was once the Earth.

In the end, the Sun shall always have her final say as both the mother of everything, we were always hers to do with as she pleased.
