Um the president enforces the federal law, so yes, he is the lawāAn editorial in a Maine newspaper took direct aim at Donald Trump Saturday after the president issued a direct threat to the state. The Bangor Daily Newsā editorial board issued its scathing putdown after Trump directed comments to the stateās Democratic governor, Janet Mills, as she attended a White House luncheon Friday.
He hit out because Maine has refused to change laws regarding transgender athletes in student sports. āYouād better do it because youāre not going to get any federal funding at all if you donāt,ā he told her. When she hit back with, āIām complying with state and federal laws,ā Trump told her, āwe are the federal law.ā
āNo sir, you are not the federal law,ā the newspaper schooled him. āCongress, not the president, writes and amends the laws of the United States. Congress, not the president, allocates funding to federal agencies and programs. Federal courts are upholding these core tenets of our democracy as Trump seeks to undermine them.ā
The editorial board had nothing but praise for Mills, and how she politely refused to back down to Trumpās attack. āThe governorās message was simple: Maine will follow the law,ā the board wrote. āShe didnāt get into her personal feelings about transgender athletes or any other American. Because her personal feelings donāt matter. The governor, like the president, is responsible for upholding laws that protect the rights of all Mainers and all Americans.ā

So much for states rights.
States have no right to federal fundsSo much for state's rights.
They are violating teh rights of girls in the state.
Maybe so but that doesn't address my point.
States don't have the authority to do that. The federal government does have the right to intervene if the states are violating the civil rights of their citizens.
That is the whole point of civil rights legislation.
Im not sure this is in any civil rights legislation.
