There is a suggestion that China had a delegation that was going to meet Maduro today. I'm not sure if this is accurate or not but Trump is sending a message "we will confront those who wish to do harm to America".

Russia also posted a video suggesting the meeting of Maduro with Chinas special convoy. Bad timing because hours later he was removed.

He was not popular with the people in Venezuela. He trampled democracy and free elections.

I doubt they were going to "join forces". However, Chinas presence probably influenced his opponents to help American military out. No citizens who wish to be free would choose to be under Chinese leadership any more than they would choose to be under Soviet leadership in the 1980s.
