The NFL has adjusted its rules to allow players the option of using Guardian Caps in regular-season games to enhance their protection against head injuries, the league confirmed Friday.

The padded headgear was mandated for players at certain positions during training camp in 2022 and 2023. Speaking earlier this year, NFL executive vice president Jeff Miller said that Guardian Caps have contributed to a nearly 50% reduction in concussions for the position groups that wore them during those time periods.

They should all be brown to look like this....

Or maybe red to look like this:

One a different note, these PC messages the NFL has on helmets like "End racism" and "Choose Love"; I would what would happen if a player had "Choose Life". You can bet he'd be fined $25,000 for a 'divisive' message.

Are you seriously making fun of people who are trying to avoid traumatic brain injury?

The NFL should go back to the old school helmets that didn't have the bars in the front. The older head gear helped keep people in line, as you could punch the opponent in the head if he acted up.

It has been proven that it isnt the initial impact that causes concussion, but the brain hitting the inside of the skull after the head stops, Even with all that padding, inertia of the contact still makes the brain move.

This causes the brain to move forward and back or from side to side, such that it collides with the bony skull around it. This jarring movement bruises brain tissue, damages axons (part of the nerve cell), and tears blood vessels.

What next? Bubbles? Flags?

Can’t touch the QB? ooops have that now yet you can still target any full speed white receiver? oh wait that got changed to a no no. Defenseless-senseless hit for mayhem. penalized but if you have a three score lead it is only 15 yds? Might be worth it to knock him out for the playoffs. Perhaps need more reeth in that one. Suspension? $1mil fine? Attempted murder charge?

The game has become, be smart. Avoid the hits. Go down, run out of bounds. Live to play again. They can’t spear you if you go down.

It's a good idea.
If the league doesn't pursue options like this it will become a Flag Football League.

Clearly political message.

Nothing political about "end racism" unless, of course, one is a racist.

You wonder if the NFL tried to use leather helmets like they did a long time ago, if players would lead with their heads in tackles and hits.

The NFL's decision is promising. Recalling how it was commonplace that head coaches wore business suits on the sidelines and now that practice is against the rules, for years I thought the league was becoming nothing more than a Nike fashion show. The butt-uglier these new caps are, the better.
