Once again, New York City gets hit with a terrorist attack, and once again New York "leaders" bungle their response to it. Both New York governor Andrew Cuomo, and mayor Bill DeBlasio express wrong ideas.
Cuomo said "...if we change our lives...then they win, and we lose." Change lives how ? By no longer making yourselves open targets, with all of NYC one gigantic gun-free zone ? By allowing law-abiding New Yorkers, trained in firearms, to carry concealed handguns, this would make them win ?
Not hardly, Andy. In fact, it would do just the opposite. It would provide a deterrent to keep them away, and would stop them, if they do attack. So, what do these illustrious protectors do ? They eliminate a good means of protection, by having New Yorkers unarmed and defenseless, when the terrorists show up.
The mayor deBlasio said there will be extensive additional employments of NYPD officers in the days ahead. That's good, but why not have extensive employments of armed citizens, who can deter crime, and act when needed ? Many of these could also be former police, National Guard, US military, ex-security guards, etc, as well.
