New narrative - people are fleeing blue cities because there isn't enough housing

I'm seeing this pop up regularly now. A ridiculous take, claiming that a "housing supply crisis" is why people are leaving blue cities in droves. A normal initial reaction could be, well, that's just another example of libs shooting at the wrong target. This pattern only makes sense when you realize that the goal of leftism isn't solving problems, it's growing government and taking away individual freedoms. This perpetual state of phony crises is so tiresome. Of course, the solution will be some sort of federal housing subsidy that will further mess up the market.

We should just close the border and deport those who shouldn't be here and the problem would be solved.

... and depend on farmer subsidies ... or your state's economy crashes and ADM moves in ... or worse ...

Kansas is bought and paid for ... MAGA Mike Johnson is pumping the money in to keep your state Red ... one pork-belly CR at a time ... Democrat style ha ha ha ha ...
Our governor is a Democrat. Elected into office after two terms of a republican that fucked the state up with tax cuts.

And yet their cost of living is higher, thus their standard of living is lower.
I wouldn't say that the standard of living in a city is lower than in rural areas.

it all depends on your definition of rural. With the work from home craze, a person can have the same job and salary of one that lives in a large inner city and have a much better standard of living living in a more rural area. Much nicer home, far less taxes, much more space and in my case, restaurants, grocery stores that are far nicer than those found in downtown areas of large cities, and Starbucks galore.

Your LBGT community uses a scientifically correct rainbow flag ... that's rare even in indigo-hating Blue States ... evil hates competition ...

I don't really obsess over things like LGBTQ.

I can tell ... why I brought it up ... you're from Kansas complaining about farmer subsidies ... that would be like me from Western Oregon complaining about the rain ... or all the trees cluttering up the forest ...

Rural living is better - in some regards, and not in others. I grew up in a small town, lived all of my adult life in the Big City, and retired to a small town.

City living is more expensive, more stressful, and highly profitable. I made 3X more money working on Bay Street, than my friend who worked for the local lawyer here for more than 30 years, and she had no benefits whatsoever, other than staturtory benefits. In addition to my salary I had spring and fall bonuses, sports club membership, supplemental medical and dental plans, pension plan with matching contributions, and more.

I miss being able to walk out my front door and buy anything I want or need. I really miss ethnic restaurants. I want Indian food (and I'd don't mean food from the Rez), Thai Food, even an Italian restaurant would be nice. But most of all I miss going to Jays games (I had a share of a seasons tickets), Raptors games (my best friend had seasons tickets), and the Ballet - a neighbour was a retired dancer.

To each their own, just don't try to force me into a big city like some commies want to do. There will be violence.

How Republican of you!

How about BUILDING more housing for working people, to reduce that competition. Building more housing creates jobs, increases the property tax base, and puts money back into the community, in addition to solving the housing crisis.

Instead of just putting up more "monster homes" for the wealthy.

There are 13 high density subdivisions and at least 4 apartment complexes going up in my area and the roads an other infrastructure are not here to support them. If I were younger, I'd be moving.

This is what happens without municipal planning or regulation.

Are developers required to pony up for infrastructure for the increased density? In Canada, the developers are required to install roads, curbing and sidewalks, as part of their Development Agreements, and then to deed the roads and sidewalks over to the municipality when completed.

I've seen DA's for large developments being required to build a public school, and a public park, but developments like the ones being proposed for your area would impact water and sewage in a big way as well.

Every municipality has a "municipal plan" for the explansion of the city, to protect residential neighbourhoods, and to control density and infrastructure needs.

They do all that within the subdivisions, not the country roads that feed them. BTW none are located within municipalities.

They drill water wells, have their own treatment plants and sewage treatment plants. We have volunteer fire depts and they depend on county sheriff and State police.

All of the disadvantages of city living and none of the advantages.
