How does a parliamentarian system change that?
You will still have a government in power, and the goody bag will still be open, but now you will probably have to satisfy coalition partners as well.
I don't know other than we can press our representatives to start addressing single item legislation.
Taking the National Treasury as a bottomless pit off the table with a Balanced Budget Amendment might work some, but I doubt that will ever be taken seriously.
More drastically, I think an Amendment requiring a Super Majority vote in Congress, would go a long way towards shattering the hold the establishment has over Congress, It might also actually provide us with more party options and more responsible legislation, as it would slow legislation down and force things to be removed for support, instead getting enough people to agree with adding more.
But again, I don't think that is reasonable because the establishment won't kill themselves.
One thing is going to have to give though before we ever get anywhere new and more productive or responsible.
Personally, I am not looking for a third-party option, because that would just be a losing party that damages the other two, with possibly worse consequences. There needs to be about four or five parties, and eight would be better, building coalitions, and giving the People more say so in what we actually get in legislation.
