NASCAR driver fined $50,000 for calling Mexico City a "s**thole "

june 17 2025 NASCAR Cup Series driver Carson Hocevar has been handed a $50,000 fine by his team, Spire Motorsports, after he made an inappropriate comment about Mexico on a live stream.

This comes two days after the race weekend at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico, where Hocevar finished 34th. Little did he know that the week was about to get worse after he called Mexico City a "s**t hole" on a Twitch live stream.
Spire took action against Hocevar by levying the fine and announced that he will undergo mandatory "cultural-sensitivity and bias-awareness training." The team stated on X:

"After a thorough internal review of Carson Hocevar's recent livestream remarks about Mexico City, and in close consultation with NASCAR, Spire Motorsports is issuing the following disciplinary measures:

"A $50,000 fine, which will be donated in equal portions to three organizations that serve Mexican communities:

I watched part of that race last weekend. I thought the same thing, I thought: "What a shithole. NASCAR is really reaching deep for dollars going there." But I get their point: the driver should know he is representing them and I'm sure NASCAR has lots of money invested there. Now the NFL is rooking its own fans out of a game and shipping them off to Europe.

Bet those ticket prices don't come down though.

Wow, I did not know that. It is literally the world's fastest sinking city. They built Mexico City on an island in a lake over an old Aztec city, and studies indicate that the city is sinking up to 20 inches annually in some areas. They estimate that areas could decrease by as much as 65 feet over the next 150 years. Areas close to Mexico City's center might submerge 100 feet due to compaction of the underlying silt as they drain the whole area once filled with water.
