My reaction to the idea of the NAACP declaring the citizen movement known as the Tea Party as racist is ridiculous. I am Black. I have spoken at over twenty rallies and conferences. I have talked directly with hundreds of tea party activists, and have received hundreds of calls from activists to my nightly radio show. Tea Party people are patriots, who want the federal government to stop the spending, stop the legislative abuse, stop the tax increases and start adhering to the Constitution.

It is unfortunate that a once relevant and impactful organization is looking for relevance in the wrong place, namely, race. It should be about unity instead of divisiveness.

I have been called a sell-out, an Uncle Tom and shameless because I disagree with this President’s policies. Those who are calling me those names have probably never been to a Tea Party event, and I doubt officials of the NAACP have attended an event either. Those that would like to join the name calling parade should save themselves some time. In my grandfather’s vernacular, “I does not care!”

Politics: Tancredo's racist Tea Party.

Tom Tancredo's recent speech at the first National Tea Party Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, has created a media firestorm because of an ugly racist tone.

Tancredo, no stranger to controversy or the charge of racism, met with mixed reviews from fellow Tea Partiers after his disturbing remarks. The episode marks a rift within the Tea Party movement itself: a battle for the very identity of what it means to be a member of the nebulous Tea Party movement.

Former Representative Tom Tancredo, a Republican from Colorado, told about 600 convention goers in the Nashville ballroom that in the 2008 election President Barack Obama was elected because of "people who could not even spell the word 'vote' or say it in English.'"

Expressing his disappointment that America "put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House ... Barack Hussein Obama." Tancredo went on to suggest that a literacy test be implemented to prevent electoral outcomes in the future.

Suggesting a literacy test is nothing short of calling for a return to Jim Crow laws. Under Jim Crow laws literacy tests were used to prevent blacks from voting during segregation. They were banned by the Voting Rights Act in 1964.

Tancredo blamed the election of Obama on "the cult of multiculturalism." Such remarks are code to rally the racists. Calling for a literacy test, complaining about those not speaking English, lamenting our multi-cultural society, are part and parcel of a well established racist code. Tancredo's remarks are like blowing a dog whistle, calling all racists.

Make no mistake, not all Tea Partiers are racist. Nevertheless, the Tea Party movement continues to be saddled with this racist baggage. As long as the Tea Party movement continues to offer a platform for racists like Tancredo, the party will never gain the mainstream acceptance it craves.

The leftist group Think Progress has taken down and edited a video smearing the Tea Party movement as racist after being caught using three year old footage. The group kept in footage and images of leftist provacateurs who were caught infiltrating Tea Party rallies with racist messages.

Think Progress originally released a 53 second YouTube video yesterday entitled "Tea Party Racism". That video is now blocked and was replaced this morning with an edited version that runs 50 seconds.

Hate Groups and Nativist Extremists Crashing ‘Tea Parties’

At the white supremacist website, Stormfront, for example, people have posted comments urging their fellow racists to attend tea parties and try to recruit new members to their cause.

“Don’t go there [Tea Parties] with flags and uniforms, and don’t try to preach the truth,” advised one Stormfront writer. “Go in civil, meet people with whom we might do things later, and try to get into the organising [sic] circles.” Another writer said in response that white supremacists shouldn’t “fail to push to envelope” but cautioned them to “dress inconspicuously.”

Meanwhile, the Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC) is urging its members to attend tea parties. The CCC is the successor to the White Citizens Councils that opposed desegregation in the South in the 1950s and 1960s. It is a white supremacist group that opposes non-white immigration and affirmative action, while supporting the display of the Confederate battle flag.

The nativist movement also has a presence at the tea parties. William Gheen, the founder of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, or ALIPAC, E-mailed “allied leaders” urging them to join a coalition of his and other anti-immigration groups in attending tea parties. “The vast majority of attendees to these events are with us on immigration enforcement,” he wrote. Among the other groups that Gheen identified as being in the coalition are the San Diego Minutemen, the hate group Save Our State, and Voice of the People USA.

I know people will say this makes me racist, but I'm all for requiring a test before letting people register to vote. Not anything complicated, but if they don't know the 3 branches of our government and the name of the current president and vice president, they shouldn't be voting. I also think they should have to prove citizenship before being registered to vote and before being able to run for office. And I am all for picture ID at the voting polls.

I was watching a PBS documentary about WWII and the fact that a Democrat president allowed the internment of thousands of Americans of Japenese descent and allowed a segrigated military to thrive was disturbing to me. (Lets not forget about the Germans and Italians as well)
Why is'nt FDR berated like all the supposed racists in the GOP?

One more thing to add.... Those people in the documentary that were interned still loved their nation and knew that it was a wonderful place to live, and were thankful for being able to prove their allegiance by serving anyways.... that was eye opening, and very telling of their determination to not be held down. The same went for the black Americans that were interviewed.... They love this country and were'nt whining about it.

With that being said,

I wish it didnt happen that way, but we cant go back and change it... it happened.... lets move on and stop trying to devide us because of our skin color.

A simple example is the term "race-baiting". In the Nexis database, uses of "race-baiting" undergo a sudden switch in the early 1990's. Before then, "race-baiting" referred to racists. Afterward, it referred in twisted way to people who oppose racism. What happened is simple: conservative rhetors, tired of the political advantage that liberals had been getting from their use of that word, took it away from them.

A more complicated example is the word "racist". Conservative rhetors have tried to take this word away as well by constantly coming up with new ways to stick the word onto liberals and their policies. For example they have referred to affirmative action as "racist". This is false; it is an attempt to destroy language. Racism is the notion that one race is intrinsically better than another.
