Not being a Mod, I'm not sure. But I think the question isn't about a Mod locking a thread, I think it's about why a locked thread appears in a listing.

But being a database guy, I'm assuming that a Mod locked the thread from view.

However it can take time for the index of threads and time stamps to catch up to the threads actual status. The result it it appears in listings, but when the system tries to actually access a thread there is a lock present presenting general access.

If I'm correct, how long that "sync" can take is anyones guess.

You click a goober and it's locked.

I used to have all sorts of threads that I would click only to find out that I did not have permission.

That pretty much disappeared when Coyote was no longer a Mod.

I put a Voodoo curse on it. There's no doodoo like Voodoo!

IIRC but a thread can be closed, but also basically deleted.

There's a special place we mods put threads like that. Aptly named "The Trash Can." Threads like that will be moved there.

It is a forum not visible to regular members and will throw that error if you attempt to access it.
