Analysis: Despite the attribution above, it's unlikely that Sherry Hackett, the wife of deceased comedian Buddy Hackett, actually wrote this viral op-ed piece, which has been circulating on the Internet since September 2009. The earliest versions I've found were either posted unsigned (example), or attributed to someone named Faye Parrish (examples: #1, #2).

It's quite common for anonymous political screeds to be falsely attributed to celebrities because it lends them more credibility in some people's minds. Until and unless evidence is uncovered to the contrary, I'm assuming that's what happened in this case.

Update: According to a 2009 press release concerning the fate of a charitable project started by Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Hackett in the early 2000s, Sherry Hackett died in 2007.

Update: I contacted Faye Parrish of Bunnell, Florida via an email address I found in one of the earliest postings of the "We Noticed" letter, and she acknowledged writing it.
