From the 1930s all through to the early 2000s - where I live, a Catholic church rang bells on the hour - BUT - it was ONLY to tell the hour, and the bell rang the number of what time it was. Obviously it did not do this at night.
On Sunday morning, it rang announcing mass. I guess that was the trade off for providing "what time it is" service. It was useful, I remember when I was a kid you paid attention if you were supposed to be home by a certain time.

Hammoud discussed the concern on the Nov. 3 episode of the "Not From Here" podcast. Local Dearborn citizens have complained in recent months that a nearby mosque has been broadcasting the call to prayer on loudspeakers multiple times a day, beginning as early as 5:30 a.m.

Though residents raised concerns during a September city council meeting, Hammoud insisted that the call to prayer under a certain decibel level is allowed under city ordinances and has been part of Dearborn life for decades."

NY used to be the greatest: plays at Lincoln Center, the Christmas shows at Radio City, great shopping on 5th Avenue, loved the 2nd Avenue Del, the great museums, and just the all around-energy of a vibrant American city!

Now we have Muslims blasting the call to prayer at 5 am and a mayor-elect who refuses to condemn the calls to increase violence against Jews worldwide.

Disturbing the peace is in violation of law ordinances, unless a Muslim mayor carves out exceptions to give priority to what’s best for his fellow Islamists.

That is NOT freedom of religion.

Local ordinances limit the volume of the speaker and prevent it from being used between 10 PM and 7 AM and apply to everyone.

People are claiming it's being broadcast at 5 in the morning and 5 times a day, these are just lies.
