It appears the gods are delivering more terrible News 4 MAGA Messaging. It seems, America’s stores are winning the war on shoplifting. How can that be, you may ask? I suggest when people push away doom, gloom, dystopian scenarios of American wreckage, reality sets in. American ingenuity wins again. Retailers suffered and rather than quit or walk away crying crocodile tears, they went to correcting a situation.

New York CNN —

A year ago, America’s stores declared a shoplifting epidemic. They closed stores in major cities, hired extra security, locked up key merchandise and declared big losses in their financial statements.

This year, retailers are telling a very different story — or no story at all. It’s as if the shoplifting crisis suddenly vanished.

Take Target, for example.

Last year, Target said a scourge of petty theft and organized groups stealing merchandise dented its profit by more than $500 million. Target also closed nine stores, saying “theft and organized retail crime” threatened worker and customer safety and made business unsustainable.

But now, Target is sounding a different message as it gets a better grip on lost merchandise, known as shrink. (Shrink and theft are often used interchangeably, although shrink also accounts for inventory losses from employee theft, damaged and spoiled products, administrative errors, vendor fraud and other factors.)

“We’re ahead of where we expected to be in terms of progress on shrink,” Target chief operating officer chief Michael Fiddelke said on an analyst call last month.

So the private sector took care of a problem the government refused to?

IMO? That should be a lesson for the voters.

Glad to see privacy business reacting to the failures of harris and xiden admin to enforce laws

This bullshit started in San Franpsycho ( Harris was a DA there ). and spread around the world.

They made shoplifting up to 1000$ a petty misdemeanor.

Why would that be the government's responsibility?

CVS has upped the game too. Locking shelters for their products. Some supermarkets are doing it, too.

And the cost is passed along to the consumers. It’s a kind of government caused “tax.”

A very regressive tax it is, too.

What was actually wrong with having the law enforcement folks (which used to include the public prosecutors) enforce anti theft and shoplifting laws?

Democrat leftards are the reason there's a "war on shoplifting" in the first place.

Just like a leftard, create a crisis then pretend to solve it.

No sale. Stores are CLOSING because of the mess Democrats created. There was just another one in San Francisco THIS WEEK. 35 years in business, and they couldn't handle the leftard looters. Call 911, no one comes. This is what the Democrats brought, theft and loss of business.

‘The bane of retail.’ To prevent theft, many big chains now lock up all kinds of merchandise

Security glass once locked up electronics, Sudafed and a few other items. But stores have gotten more aggressive in efforts to confront retail theft.

We're talking local officials here, not the federal government.

it also makes shopping a pain in the ass having to wait for a clerk to open a case for freaking shaving razors.

Deterring shoplifting is now the government's job? :laughing0301:

Mister Beale, you can be funny.

Close the stores where shoplifting occurs in enough numbers to affect the prices nationally. It took many years for chain stores to return to many areas. And the Prog politicians destroyed them on purpose as to get rid of Trump. Now people in those areas need to go further away from where they live.

You almost gotta admire the left when they turn the nationwide shoplifting and store invasions into an attack on MAGA republicans. Do they really believe the propaganda or is it an excuse to avoid talking about the mess Biden/Harris left the Country?

Many stores are moving out of high crime areas because of lack of law enforcement. That does have a positive effect on shoplifting.

So what you've just said is, under the Biden administration shoplifting went to record highs, but only recently, it's beginning to fall due to the efforts or the retailers, and you champion that as a win over the Right? 🤔

You've been off your meds again, haven't you!
