They don't want this to play out because they know the longer it does the more people will see McCarthy as no different than McConnell, just another sellout tool for the liberals. The big tell is the ones blaming if McCarthy isn't speaker it will go to democrats, when the only way that could happen is with republicans voting for a democrat for speaker.
