It appears Maryland is about to double their Nuclear Power.
Why, because it is the only source of clean energy that can meet the demands of this tiny little state.
Think of that, even a small state needs nuclear power.
Maryland also says it is the least expensive option!

Constellation has said it will explore building 2 GW of new nuclear power units at its Calvert Cliffs plant as part of a range of measures proposed to meet Maryland’s future energy demands.

The company said it could bring forward these developments in Maryland "at the lowest possible cost to consumers, provided we have clear direction and enabling legislation from Maryland’s policymakers".

I think all states should look into nuclear power. Engineering and quality control should be paramount.

Data centers on the regional grid are driving up costs....MD only has 44 of them but Virginia has 600+.

It even hits WV.

Data centers in other states are raising power costs in West Virginia

West Virginians are seeing higher power costs as AI and data centers increase electricity demand across the regional power grid.

LNG costs have risen, thus the cost of electricity has increased.

Natural gas prices have surged by 160% since February 2024. Additionally, natural gas futures have increased by 140% from a year ago.

Maybe we need to keep more of our LNG here (instead of sending it to the EU) if we insist on building-out data centers.

It will be ten years before we see anymore new nuke power come online.....People need to live in the now and the now is LNG.

The regulatory constraints on nuclear power make building a new plant (excluding SMR's) prohibitively expensive. If the State takes an ownership position it could be possible.

Consider the FACT that in the long history of American commercial nuclear power (starting in 1963), there has not been a single radiation-related death or even illness in an American nuclear power plant. (Or in a nuclear powered naval vessel).

And yet most Americans consider them "unsafe."
