There are two parts to prove in the case....
1. Trump Org paid Micheal Cohen for Stormy Daniels NDA.

The trail of money is in evidence and Trump signed the checks.

2. The payment was a campaign donation
This is the bit which there is plenty of precedent.
Paying of for a NDA 11 days before election (or anytime during a campaign) is considered a donation to a campaign.
It is not personal at that point, you as a candidate benefit your campaign without it being a campaign donation. This is about transparency.
BTW, Trump Ic paid not Trump himself.
3. The NDA is a illegal use of Campaign Funds.
Using campaign funds for personal use is prohibited. FEC guidance on which expenses are considered to be personal use and which expenses are considered on a case-by-case basis, including charitable donations, gifts, candidate salary, meals, vehicles, travel and legal expenses

I know some will say how can you pay off somone 11 days before an election? You can't really... There is no way that close with out breaking the law.
He could have done it legally before he the elcection campaign and have a line of NDAs set up and paid off., With his personal money, this is why campaign have there own team do research before you announce and seal this up.
Trump is in this at the moment because he is an idiot who broke the law... Evidence is pretty clear he broke the law... His best shot is to get a hung jury by having a follower in the jury who will ignore the evidence and the law.
