Manchin snapped back: “This isn’t the first time an out-of-stater has tried to tell West Virginians what is best for them despite having no relationship to our state.”
“Congress should proceed with caution on any additional spending and I will not vote for a reckless expansion of government programs. No op-ed from a self-declared Independent socialist is going to change that,” Manchin said in a statement on Friday evening shortly after the op-ed published.
The issue is it should be fully 100% paid for. The real problem here was if the (D)'s raised taxes on those who could afford to pay for this a long line of other Democrats would jump ship.
They're going to eventually piss Manchin off and he'll switch parties and put McConnell back in as majority leader. That will make kneepads more irrelevant than she is now.

I could go on and on, but the point is made. Joe Manchin gets re-elected because he's a DINO shill for the coal and natural gas companies, not because he's done anything for his constituents in WV.
Everybody wants him to flip and to become a Republican because his views line up with theirs. Problem is, he could switch to the Republican party, but they'd primary him in 2024.
I have to hand it to Bernie Sanders for turning up the heat on Manchin. His 15 minutes are up. Time to do something for the voters of your state.

There was a time we had people in the Democratic party that were left, center and right. Now most are left and left of left. There is a small percentage that are moderate and maybe even to the right on an issue or two. But they fall in line. Progs are not arguing for financial sense. They are just arguing for how much fiat currency they can print up it seems while adding new social programs that will not be removed.

Of course progressives are making an argument for financial sense. The argument is tax increases on corporations and the wealthy. And for some reason in this country, we are unable to move off of the basic view that wealth "trickles down" and "a rising tide lifts all boats" when we've seen that isn't even remotely the case over the last four decades. We have a portion of the political establishment that is loathe to raise taxes under any circumstances except on the group of people that can shoulder the main portion of the bill for their expensive defense budgets. All while cutting programs aimed at the most vulnerable members of our society.
Progressives want to do the opposite. Increase the social safety net...and pay for it with tax increases..on the people and entities that are already being WAY under taxed.

YOur political compass is a little off. Biden is right wing. You werent complaining about all that government spending while trump was in office now were you?
He is certainly being dragged through the mud due to his ties with coal, but it reallit poses an interesting question--should you vote for an industry insider who knows the nuts and bolts and possibly be a little self-dealing, or should you vote for someone who doesn't have a clue about the nuts and bolts who is dealing ideology when that industry play such a big role in your state.

Coal is the worst fuel possible. It kills the people who mine it, it kills the people who use it, it kills the people who live close to where it's being used, and it kills the children of all of them. The only people who benefit from coal are the people who own the companies that produce it.

The Democrats are not doing anything here the Republican's didn't do under Trump. You can argue they are doing more of it and that is what happens when you don't condemn your guy for spending, spending, spending.

Coal creates the steel that build the UPS truck that delivers your etsy orders and ironically the effort to kill coal is making it more profitable than it has been in a long time. This issue. however, is not just about coal. It is also about natural gas. It is also about screwing up the economy in some parts of Appalachia and pretending that someone else getting a job in California installing solar somehow makes the guy in WV who has no job and job prospects even better off living on welfare.
