REO Speedwagon "Tough Guys"
It had been speculated for some time that it is a protest song against the Who.
Roger Daltrey had made a comment in I believe it was The Rolling Stone magazine where he basically referred to REO Speedwagon as a "pansy band" and Gary Richrath reminded him of a girl on stage.
REO Speedwagon has a flock of female followers, and the song is reportedly written to say to Roger Daltry "oh yeah...well Mr. Tough guy...who has the girls?"
Told you...once I start..
Old Man by Neil Young.
When he was in his 20's already a millionaire he wanted to buy a farm, and found one that was exactly what he wanted. (and still owns today)
There was an old man that used to own it...he had a conversation with the man the day he bought it...he kept thinking about this old man, and how he had to work his whole life on this farm...how it took him most of his life to own it and had to work it everyday to keep it. It had occurred to him how easy it was for him to just swoop in and buy it in the same manner this old man might buy a candy bar on a shelf.
So one day sitting out by the fence where he had the conversation with him at - he wrote this song.

"Whiter Shade of Pale" has always made me wonder.
"Whiter Shade of Pale" has always made me wonder.
Fantastic song. There must be 50 different claimed meanings about this song ranging from satanic to a tribute to Shakespeare. (it contains references of Shakespeare in the 3rd and 4th paragraphs that are not in the studio recorded version)
I rather like to think that it is simply about a man and a woman who met and eventually had sex.
here is the full version of the song...(well one of them)
