Many outraged by António Guterres' false words about "unprecedented", and attached to the tweet a "community note" that corrects the statements and explains that the information conveyed in it is incorrect.

"UN Secretary-General Guterres took office in 2017, which is considered the deadliest year for Syrian citizens, with more than ten thousand dead. Although the war in Yemen began before Guterres took office, the number of deaths in it reached 377 thousand during his term."


One replied:

Japan is "extremely concerned about the alleged involvement of UNRWA staff members in the terror attack on Israel" and has been "strongly urging UNRWA to conduct the investigation in a prompt and complete manner", the foreign ministry said in a statement quoted by Reuters.
Japan is the sixth biggest donor to the agency, according to the UNRWA's 2022 data, noted the news agency.
