Right now I am on an antipsychotic depot injection (please don't ask). And one side effect that I have noticed, is that food doesn't taste good anymore. Now, I am a huge food-lover, I love to eat and I love food. Food is one of the remaining sources of pleasures in my life. And now, food that used to taste amazing to me, simply feels meh now. I really think it has to do with the Invega that I am on.

Honestly, without delicious food, I don't want to live. Life is pretty much meaningless if I cannot enjoy my food (and snacks). So, I think I will try and broach it with my doctor. I doubt that he will take me off it, I am pretty sure he wants me to keep taking it. But I am hoping that he will at least reduce my dosage somewhat, to see if I can have my enjoyment back. Another thing is that masturbation also has stopped feeling pleasurable. Not only that, sometimes it's downright painful. This is another side effect of the med but I am not gonna bring it up with my doctor.

Anyway, not sure what this rambling post is about anymore, lol. Thanks for listening guys, I am a little frustrated.

In the olden days Paxil used to kill Sex drive and soften body parts allegedly.

Have you talked to your doctor about changing the medicines you are getting? Maybe a different drug will have the same result with a different side effect.

Either way, best of luck to you.
Hey Joe, thanks for the reply.

No, I haven't. The thing is, I don't think it really matters what kind of antipsychotic I take, because they all more or less have side effects, and some of them have side effects that are way worse, such as Olanzapine, which I was on before, and it gave me a lot of trouble. Right now Invega isn't doing things that are too horrible, I mean the loss of pleasure with food is annoying, but it's not really really bad. I just want to be able to have my taste back, that's all. I hope that by reducing my dosage, maybe I can get my enjoyment back while still remaining on the med. I will see what he says, I am seeing him on the 20th.

Once again thanks.

If food doesn't taste good, take that lemon and make lemonade. You'll be eating less, you can lose any additional weight that you want to, and combining this with an exercise program can not only improve your physical health, it can improve your mental health.

Most people fail to understand the effect that regular exercise has on your mood and sense of well being, this is the sole reason I don't miss workouts.

Thanks.

I just feel very lazy though, I don't want to move, I don't want to sweat, I don't even want to get up from my chair, lol.

Injection rather than a pill? It must have been serious depression.

No sir; paranoid schizophrenia, rather than depression. Although I really am not schizophrenic.

Anyway, it seems even songs that I used to like don't give me enjoyment anymore.

Is loss of taste a listed side effect? If not, you might have Covid. Also, extreme fatigue can be a symptom of AF or other heart issues. No one knows your body and mind like you do, so take an active part in evaluating your medications. Have you ever watched the movie A Beautiful Mind (2001)? Sometimes acceptance can be a beneficial outcome.

I suffer from major recurring depression. Paranoid delusions. and they keep wanting to call it schizophrenia. I take Geodon max dose it makes me a little blah and I can't sleep if I don't take it but that is all the side effects I am suffering. Food tastes fine and when not depressed I do like stuff like playing games or watching movies. Geodon is called ziprasidone also. It has a lot of potential side effects I was just lucky I don't get them. All antipsychotics do I believe. Good luck finding something that works.

That could be a side effect of meds, it's also a benchmark of depression. The thing with exercise is it also becomes like a drug, a benefical one, as the dopamine released is what turns into a motivating factor to continue doing it, you actually get addicted to that feeling. It's a positive side effect. The physical benefits are too numerous to list.
