Megan Thode, 27, says the grade ruined her dream of becoming a licensed professional counselor, reports The Morning Call, an Allentown-based newspaper. Her civil suit alleges breach of contract and sexual discrimination. It contends that the grade was part of a broader attempt to force her to abandon the graduate degree she was pursuing.

People are nuts. The real problem is that I have no doubt her Lawyer will pick the right jurors who will have no problem whatsoever rewarding this numbskull an outrageous settlement.

While it seems ridiculous, there might be a real case here (there might not be, of course). The key point is WHY she recieved a C+:

her professor, Amanda Carr, awarded her a big, fat zero for classroom participation. That zero brought her grade down.

So it wasn't a problem with academics, it was a purely subjective measure from the professor. And since she needed a B to complete her degree in Counseling and Human Services, she was prevented from completing a Masters in the field she wanted and prevented from pursuing the career she wanted, based on a subjective standard.

She'd have to demonstrate that she did participate and that the Zero was given out of animosity, but I don't think it's as frivolous as it first appears.

well if she can demonstrate that it's not, but then again, she has to be able to demonstrate that. and what it also doesn't mention was what % of her grade was the class participation? if she got a 50 in it would that heve even been enough for her ot make the grade? every other kid in the class and all classes are based on the same subjective standards
