So silly. It is a statue commemorating the explorer most credited with discovering the Americas in a way that really stuck affecting all future activities. It is a statue, a really nice statue. Instead, first the Left vilify these things building them up into this huge racial issue, then the hateful; Left attack and vandalize them. then the city, unable to control these people or unwilling to protect the statue, want to tear it down.

Even with a resolution to put the statue there, they reserve the right to just abrogate it? Leave the thing be or sell it to someone who appreciates it.
