Tis the season to blow leaves....

So....do you use a gas powered leaf blower?
Do you use battery electricelectric or corded?

How big of a place do you have? How ancient of trees dropping the leaves? How many leaves? A king sized bed pile?
Or just a twin bed? Maybe just an ottoman....

But apparently it's become a battle over the two stroke engine.
(Gas/oil mix 50:1)

I got a backpack echo. 1110 cfm blower.

That's 220 mph and 354 kmh speed.
It gets the job done for a 1.3 acre lot with many large trees including pecan, maple, and oak. (Dogwoods not included)

I don't see the little pecan stealing squirrels dieing, I don't see the deer slowing down either. I have to pellet gun them all the time.
The controversy over leaf blowers, particularly gas-powered models, stems from significant issues with noise, air pollution, health risks, and environmental damage. As a result, hundreds of municipalities across the United States have banned or restricted their use. The landscaping industry and some homeowners, however, cite the convenience and power of gas models in their opposition to the bans. From Gemini

Battery. But we only have 1/4 acre here in Los Angeles.

Back in NY we had 1 1/2 acres of manicured lawn and had one of these beasts

I've had thoughts about getting a wood chipper/ mulcher....but currently I use a burn Barrel. Much cheaper and I can burn trash as well.
But my burn Barrel doesn't work well for pedophiles.

Each has its benefits and detractors.

I wish. We burned when I was a kid, but they outlawed that long ago.

We lost 14 Ash trees due to Emerald Ash Borer covering 3/4 of an acre that I mow.
I have zero leaves to deal with for years now.

The house is no longer in danger of falling branches either.

Just piles of pine needles from the 60ft pines along the lot line. I just rake those. The back 1/4 acre is all woods and the leaves from those stay right where they dropped.

I wanted to ask....
Why leave the leaves?

The oak, pecan and maple leaves make the grass get thin and die.

Just curious....

Leaves return fertility to the landscape and can provide shelter to bugs and small toads during bad weather.

We have a backpack blower that we never use and a corded electric one we use a few times a year on holidays to clear the driveway. I always do it on Halloween/Christmas/Easter and maybe once in a blue moon if too much grass piles up when mowing.

As for the leaves, it varies year to year and in what area we are talking. I have more acreage than you. I am probably done mowing the field behind me for the year. I may go over it once more if I am bored but the leaves will largely remain as they fall. I will keep the area around the house mowed so those leaves will be mulched up and composted or dumped into the garden. I have a more heavily wooded couple side lots near the house where I will rake those leaves up and dump in landscaping beds for mulch and then maybe go over the grassier spots once and compost the remainders.

The only real reason I keep around the house mowed is because I have a busy-bodied neighbor across the road who obsesses about my yard. He has proper OCD and if he gets triggered enough, he will break down and come over here when I am gone and mow or weedeat or rake to his satisfaction and I don't want him over here doing that. For instance if I don't mow those side lots when I mow the house, it will drive him batty enough that he will wait and push mow them when we aren't here. The irony is that his property is a shitshow except a small patch right in front of his house, but he isn't the one who has to look at that. We are. Fortunately he is old enough that I just assume he will be compost himself before too many more years.
