I had forgotten how great a movie this was in 1962. It is playing on TCM as I type...sans interruptions. No wonder it garnered 7 Oscars.

I'm watching it too---adds a bit of historical perspective that some people don't like. Fantastic show all around.

He'd likely have got the Best Actor Oscar had it not been for Gregory Peck in To Kill a Mockingbird the same year.

Nothing is Written

Really brilliant movie. Always on my top ten lists. It's funny, when I first saw it back in high school, I saw it as primarily a character study. Lately I've come to see it, more and more, as commentary on all the misguided will (good and bad) involved in the West's dealing with the Middle East. Really subtle questions being asked in this movie.

Always enjoyed this quote from Prince Feisel - discussing Larwence's heroic qualities with a reporter:

"With Major Lawrence, mercy is a passion. With me, it is merely good manners. You may judge which motive is the more reliable."

I'm reminded of this movie...
