a kick in the teeth for the USA...

A highly unusual security check that US Secretary of State John Kerry and his senior aides were subjected to at the presidential palace in Cairo before meeting Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has made a splash in the local press.

The top US diplomat is usually treated with every courtesy in Cairo, but the front-page coverage in both private and state-owned papers hovers between factual reports and applause, describing the check with a hand-held metal detector as a "surprise" and saying that Mr Kerry had had to "comply" with orders of the security officers.

Kerry should have refused, turned around and walked away.

What a ball-less response, submitting to that.

That is nearly as bad as Obama's bowing.

No one expects John Kerry to be armed or have contraband. That's not the reason for the security check. It was to send a message that the US is no longer trustworthy. It was symbolic of the mistrust Egypt has generally.

I don't know what the big deal is. That's the sort of thing we should be doing to EVERY SINGLE FOREIGN NATIONAL (AND FIRST GENERATION IMMIGRANT) IN THIS COUNTRY, any time they want to enter any piece of Government property. Being a diplomat (or politician) should not mean an expectation that you get special treatment.

can you blame them......after this Administration's support of the Muslim Brotherhood.....?

The US embassy in Egypt should be immediately closed and leveled with explosives.

The Egyptian embassy should have also been closed, demolished, the rubble sown with a mix of salt and pig fat, and all the personnel (including the ambassador) flown to Egypt in handcuffs and shackles, accompanied by armed US Marshals, on a plane escorted by fully-armed F-15's with weapons free.

It was really a cavity search and when it was over he got in line again.
