They can detain someone if there is a warrant for their arrest, but federal govt has to get the warrant.

Yes get the warrant, the executive branch, must get a warrant from the judicial branch, a local sheriff can’t get a federal warrant, he doesn’t have jurisdiction. Any person with arresting power can detain someone if their is a warrant out for their arrest, they’d be detained and extradited after the people who got the warrant were notified
