“The notion that rule of law governs is the basic proposition,” Roberts said, according to Politico. “We need to stop and reflect every now and then how rare that is, certainly rare throughout history, and rare in the world today.”

In response to a student’s question, he also said criticism of the Supreme Court is a good thing—“so long as it is not trashing the justices,” Bloomberg reported.

The comments came as Trump and his supporters have attacked federal judges—including conservative Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett—and ignored judicial rulings.

The Supreme Court unanimously ruled in April that the U.S. government must “facilitate” the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland dad mistakenly deported to a Salvadoran prison, and share the steps it was taking with the district court.

Instead of following the ruling, Attorney General Pam Bondi appeared on Fox News and insisted Abrego Garcia’s wife and 5-year-old son—who are both U.S. citizens—were better off without him.

Later, she attacked the judges who have issued rulings upholding due process for migrants, calling them “deranged” and threatening to arrest them.

The DOJ is beginning to look like the MAFIA. Here you have the person who is supposed to be the highest law enforcement officer in the country, threatening to "arrest" judges that give ruling that she or her boss disagree with. The US is not Hungary. Our judicial system does not bend to threats and intimidation. trump and his henchmen can try to remove the rule of law from slapping down their unconstitutional orders, but it is not going to work. And now the USSC is beginning to see how dangerous trump and MAGA are to our system of justice.

The mafia is out of office since January jimboliar.
Wacko judges who make up their own law should be arrested...although you and your ilk supported Poopeypants when he disregarded the Supreme Court.
Maybe you should just stay in your own country and keep quiet for awhile....you just keep adding to Trump's popularity.

This is courageous of Roberts but misguided in a time when it could result in him wandering around like a dead chicken who has lost its head!

‘John Roberts gives commencement address waring the rule of law is "endangered"’

And it’s the Roberts Court that has contributed to endangering the rule of law, the consequence of the Court’s demonstrated contempt for settled, accepted precedent.

Absent the Court’s respect for precedent, the rule of law is meaningless.

Roberts is enabling an authoritarian wannabe, as he allows trump to thumb his nose at the rule of law. Would be be as compliant with a Dem President?

John Roberts lost my respect when he voted to uphold Obamacare.

The court has never respected precedent that was wrong.

It's taken a long time to clean up after the FDR court of creeps.

Democracy itself is in danger. trump is systematically trying to remove checks and balances. The cowardly repub congress has already conceded their authority to him. Now he is trying to remove even the court system from the legal process.

I have never seen a time when our way of life is in so much danger. trump's power is approaching that of a King. He is ignoring the courts, even the USSC. He is attacking our educational system and he is threatening free media.

John Roberts has as much to do with the downfall of the justice system as anyone. He's a power-hungry failure.
