Joe Morgan

My favorite Joe Morgan Highlight

CANDLESTICK CLASSICS / #3 / Day of Sweet Revenge / Joe Morgan's clutch homer knocked the Dodgers out of the pennant race on the final day of the 1982 season and made the Braves champions

He was a great player who would have set many batting records if body armor had been allowed (like with Barry Bonds).

What a great team those Reds were: Rose, Morgan, Griffey, Perez, Bench, Foster, Conception, and Geronimo. Their pitching mostly sucked, other than Seaver, otherwise they woulda won more championships.

he had an unexplained belief in his own ability, and was too stubborn to give up on his dreams

he couldn't rely on talent, because he didn't have much of it, but he was a hard worker

"Joe was so intense, he played so hard, it felt like anything could happen when he was on the field" - Pete Rose

Lot of the heroes of my youth died this month

Tom Seaver
Bob Gibson
****** Ford

now Joe Morgan...Two time MVP on a team of MVPs

Morgan was known for partying hard, but one day Pete Rose reprimanded him, and Morgan became serious about winning championships and improving his game

i heard there was one season where the Reds had the best record in baseball, yet failed to make the playoffs because of the player's strike lockout

i wonder if Joe was on that team?

he was also a quality commentator when he retired. let's not forget that!

I was at Game 5 of the World Series with the A's. A life time ago.

I recall the 1972 World Series because I had just started my freshman year at Bowling Green, 180 miles up I-75 from Cincinnati. We had a lot of Reds fans in the dorm and it was strange being around so many folks still into baseball at that time of year. Growing up near Cleveland with our crappy Indians teams year-after-year and the weather, I was used to baseball season pretty much starting on Memorial Day and ending the first day of Browns camp.

It was a blast, we rode BART (transit system) to the stadium.

It was disgraceful for others that had to play them. From one to eight it was a formidable lineup.
