As the years go by there is more and more money in the federal budget that is earmarked for social programs and really cannot be touched. This hampers change and slows down the economy. To freeze these programs or give increases below real inflation would cause mutiny from political shills.

No argument Trillions and trillions of dollars over many decades we do not know what happened to money. And you can see what politicians think of it. Joe is one of them He left 80 billion dollars of equipment in Iraq and left a 2 billion dollar heavily fortified airfield there for the Chinese to control. As an example. the military/industrial complex is corrupted. And frankly we need it cleaned up somewhat because China can outproduce us massively in war equipment. This makes war more of a hair trigger escalation potential.
