Jeanine Pirro’s appointment as U.S. attorney might not be legal

And the person needs to be appointed according to the law.
13 May 2025 ~~ Editorial

Decades before Jeanine Pirro became a co-host of Fox News’s “The Five,” cable’s highest-rated news show, she was a respected prosecutor, county court judge and then district attorney in New York’s Westchester County. This makes her better qualified to serve as the interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia than Ed Martin, whose nomination President Donald Trump withdrew last week following opposition from Republicans on Capitol Hill.
ut since Pirro left her last job as a prosecutor two decades ago, she has acted in ways that call into question whether she has the independence necessary to responsibly take on one of the most important prosecutorial jobs in the United States. What’s more, in choosing her, Trump is pushing the limits of his authority. It isn’t clear that the law allows him to name successive interim U.S. attorneys who are not confirmed by the Senate. Both these questions need to be resolved quickly to protect D.C.'s interests.
Martin faced criticism during his four months on the job for describing himself as “Trump’s lawyer.” In fact, a U.S. attorney represents the people. He or she takes an oath to uphold the Constitution, not to protect the president. Maintaining the rule of law sometimes requires, for example, prosecuting the president’s friends or supporters.

In 2020, Trump replaced two previous U.S. attorneys in D.C. because he was angry over the prosecutions of former advisers Roger Stone and Michael Flynn. It’s no surprise he wants a proven loyalist in this role. But to ensure the proper governance of D.C., the law needs to be followed, and a qualified lawyer needs to be put in charge of the office.

Commentary:
It is certainly sad to see WAPO go from a paper of record to a complete partisan joke.
In other words the unelected TDS infused illegal immigrant child trafficking for their own perversions deepstate wants their own DC attorney. Well talk about wishing in one hand and shitting in the other, here we have the COMPOST at it again.
One surmises that WAPO thought Graves was hunky dory.
“Under Graves, the US Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute 67% of those arrested for crimes in DC in 2022, including 72% of misdemeanor arrests and 53% of felony arrests.”
I think the venue for indictments and trials against Washington government officials should be held in a random federal setting that changes each year.
A jury trial in rural Tennessee then Texas, etc.
WAPO the most biase, inept and lying collection of pseudo-journalists in the world of news print media directly behind the NY Times?
Judge Jeanine would eat your lunch any time of the day/night/week/year/century.
She is so highly superior in ethics, intelligence and morals to any of your laughable staff that it would take scientific notation to adequately express the difference.

She is an interim appointment. It is legal.

I don't pay the WaPo any money. What's their "might not be legal" argument?

Nevermind. It appears their argument is "It isn’t clear that the law allows him to name successive interim U.S. attorneys who are not confirmed by the Senate"

Why would he not be able to make another nominee after withdrawing the first?

WaPo has lost their minds.

Doc7505 that is a good article, but my opinion is that it is a legal appointment until someone in power says it is not.

I am impressed. Who wrote it for you?

Trump prefers the law in China, a "rule of law country" where there's a law that says "if you piss off the CCP then you're guilty".

Apparently, among other things, it suggests that a President cannot name two consecutive appointees to the position. Because ??? Well, unclear.
