Going forward, our immigration laws should encourage the sort of immigration where immigrants bring something to the table. Education, money, resources, talents, and so on.

As for "jobs that Americans won't do," we have guest worker laws that allow people to come in temporarily, sponsored by a reputable employer and without their families, for a set period of time. That works fine, and maybe it should be expanded, but the solution is not to allow 30 million illegals to live here.

JD was much more patient with that woman than I would have been. And he might have said that his favored policies going forward would have nothing to do with the status of today's legal immigrants - of which she was obviously one.

Regardless, CONGRESS writes immigration laws, not the Executive.

We do need legal immigration and it needs to be adjusted both up and down as the economy needs while doing our best to keep illegal immigration at zero.

I didn't say that it was going to happen, I said that it should. After all who would in their right mind would want to enter any other country illegally? Most likely you'd get shot.
