Japan is on the verge of revising its defense export laws, paving the way for the shipment of Patriot missiles to the United States. These missiles would then be forwarded to Ukraine to bolster its air defense capabilities in the ongoing conflict with Moscow empire.

The law was revised a decade ago in 2014. It was against the law to export arms to former communist countries such as Ukraine or countries currently at war under three principles for arms exports, etc. The 2014 revision made the United States the only exception. The Japanese government stated that it "does not envisage that these missiles will be used in Ukraine" and has explained that there will be no transfer to a third country.
