The annual inflation rate in the US likely slowed to 2.5% in January 2026, marking its lowest level since May, down from 2.7% in each of the previous two months.
The deceleration largely reflects base effects, as higher readings from a year ago drop out of the annual calculation.
On a monthly basis, the CPI is estimated to have risen by 0.3%, matching December’s increase.
Food and electricity prices are expected to have moved higher, while gasoline prices likely declined.
There are also indications that core goods prices may have firmed, as companies potentially used the start of the new calendar year to implement tariff-related price adjustments.
Meanwhile, annual core inflation is projected to ease to 2.5%, its lowest reading since March 2021, compared with 2.6% in the prior month.

I know, I know.. it's only been 9 months -- Trump's tariff inflation spike is right around the corner!!!
And Q3-2025 GDP growth was revised UP to 4.4%!!
Winning!!

Hey, I'm no economics whiz ... but isn't 2.5% lower than the 9% we had under Joe Biden?
Just wondering ...

I`m now convinced that we should give him a pass on his pedophilia.
At the super bowl, bunny supposedly was caught molesting a little boy that was on the show in a dressing room. It was suppressed as rages of colonist accusations were spouted from him and his massive staff even with officials telling them to take their HIV/AIDS medication. Viva la Puerto Rico, they screamed. As they demanded the hundreds and hundreds of billion dollars sent to it over the many decades with the corruption that screwed over a good percentage of the island after hurricanes for gosh sakes.

More good news for Americans, bad news for the Dimwinger Cult.

I think that's for the whole of 2025.
Oh darn, right?

Estimate was 2.5%, but official 2.4% number was released at 8:30 a.m.

The 2.4% price increase of all items was for the prior 12 months - Trump's first year.

When you posted, the link said:

Now says:
Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 2.4
percent before seasonal adjustment.

Aha!

Trump proved all the "economic experts" wrong... Early 2025, they were saying inflation would increase to 4%:

CNBC:
The consumer price index for January accelerated 2.4% from the same time a year ago, down 0.3 percentage point from the prior month and the lowest since May 2025.

Inflation was 2.4 on election night in 2024. It was 9 percent for a short time due to COVID. If Trump had been president in 2021, it would have been 9 percent for him. What you dishonest right-wingers need to do is stop talking about a few months as if it was all 4 years. Finally, it is unwise to believe anything produced by this administration.
