White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan asked in an interview Sunday about the alleged killing of a civilian, the father of 10 children who tended sheep, by US forces in Syria. was done.
CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Sullivan about the allegedly failed missile attack. The Pentagon initially claimed it had successfully assassinated an “al-Qaeda leader,” but later backtracked and launched an investigation. Sullivan said he could not comment on the issue until the Pentagon’s “full and thorough investigation” was completed, instead touting President Biden’s record of military responsibility.
“It was President Biden who acted in line with Secretary Austin’s current administration guidelines to ensure accountability and oversight of possible civilian casualties from counterterrorism attacks,” Sullivan said. “So far, we have no evidence to verify the claims being made in Syria. However, we will refrain from making any judgments about what really happened here until the Pentagon investigation is complete.”

Two military officials said they no longer believed the Pentagon had killed the terrorists, the Post reported, citing anonymity.
“We no longer have confidence that we killed an AQ official,” said one official.
Another official claimed, “While we believe the attack did not kill the original target, we believe that person is al Qaeda.”
