Message boards are the primary connection to the world because they are home bound due to whatever reason. USMB is my local bar. The place I hang out at often when not doing RL stuff. Nothing to be ashamed about, either. I am a recluse. I choose to come and go as I please. Because it IS my choice.
I read the news online. I look at nature online. I see animals online Ill never get to see. I meet people online I would never get to meet. I learn differing views from many many people I would normally not ever get to learn from.
Just sayin'.

BTW, I didn't say don't use the internet. I said don't let messageboards be your primary interaction with the real world. Psst...because it's not real.
And if you find your primary relationships are with personas online, whom you've never met and whose real names you don't know, I extend my advice to you as well.
Granted, you said dont use it as a primary. But you also insinuated it was not healthy. I find it very healthy. For me.
And yes it is very real. Without google, I would not have found a solution to the problem I had after my gall bladder was removed...and reading other people had the same problem which my doctor said was a figment of my imagination until I printed out 5 pages of comments from many other websites with hundreds and thousands more just like what they were saying.....just as I was saying.
I have met friends that are real. I met them face to face.
If this is not real to you, do you make a habit of hanging out in lalaland talking to invisible playmates? Get help. Just some friendly advice.
