When I was on a business trip in Las Vegas years ago, I took one of my associates by the arm and pointed at the massive Caesar's Palace structure.

"That didn't get built by people losing!", I said.

I didn't drop so much as a quarter on gambling in Vegas. I detest Vegas and all it stands for. It is the epitome of evil. They even pride themselves on being "Sin City"!

Now...

Someone please explain the special genius that is Donald Trump who was able to LOSE a billion dollars on a casino.

Seriously. How much of a dumbass do you have to be to lose money on a casino? The House has the edge!

Well, according to another thread, he was investing in people. Not paying them, but investing in them. I shit you not, that's what they said.

first of all, you're the one and only person on earth who never spends money in a casino. beyond that, there are only three casinos in america, so there's no real competition between them. also, everything in a casino is made of cheap plastic and cardboard, no expensive ornamental gardens or fountains or anything like that. so, yeah, all casinos do is rake in money all the time without any risk of losing anything.

You mean to say the Pope plays the slots? :D

Maybe that's how Trump lost money on a casino. The House might have the edge, but the Pope has God on his side.

Did any other casino owners lose a billion dollars that year? The 90s were boom years. How did he lose money during a huge economic boom?

So there were a lot of other casinos. Okay. So why was Trump stupid enough to open another one? That's kind of like building a McDonald's across the street from another McDonalds and a Wendys and a Burger King and a Jack in the Box.

What special kind of genius does that?

Trump lost a billion dollars and now he's bragging, "That makes me smart."

BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!

Trump Casinos lost money every single year of operation. Not just one year.

During an economic boom.

THAT takes a special kind of genius.

Unfortunately, while Trump got some rubes to pay him big money to run the casinos, the investors lost their asses. Wiped out.

401ks, pension funds, etc.

If he were the only one, you might have a point.

Since January, four of the city's 11 casinos have closed, announced plans to close or gone bankrupt, jettisoning jobs and eating away at revenue from visitors who, when they weren't gambling, could be found spending money in local businesses. With nearby states building up gambling industries, people are finding fewer reasons to travel to this sandy spit, where gritty streets and dilapidated homes sit in the shadows of once-glittering casinos.

Casinos no longer golden for Atlantic City

What does 2014 have to do with the boom times of the 90s?

How many failed alongside Trump?

So now you stoop to lying like a regressive. His smart comment had NOTHING to do with the loss.

It has EVERYTHING to do with the loss.

Trump tries to make his failures look like genius. The reason he was able to zero out his taxes is because he failed catastrophically. And he wants us to think that makes him smart!

If he was smart, he would not have lost a billion dollars in boom times. He would not have lost money every single year of the boom times. He would not have wiped out his investors.

An allegory: "I drove drunk and crashed my car into a tree. That same year, I received a check from GEICO. That makes me smart!"

He's not much of a visionary, that's for sure. One state after another legalized gambling and the dumbass didn't realize that people won't be coming to AC or LV in droves anymore? Instead he stubbornly held on because he liked the way his name looked on the side of the hotel. Sure sign of a clinical narcissist.

Instead he spent his time fighting gambling on the Indian reservations in New York. He is just a pig.

Edited: Oh, and he lost that one big time, too

I thought you were smarter than that, in that type of a business, when business goes south, the rule is last in first out. Why because you're trying to compete with established businesses. Morgan Stanley walked away from a 932 million investment is AC. They lost more than Trump and their suppose to be full of smart people.

Morgan Stanley which three years ago decided to walk away from its entire $932 million sunk investment in the bankrupt hotel (instead of spending another billion to complete it), but the people of New Jersey, who just lost another investment opportunity as some $260 million in the tax incentives that were supposed to help the project along will never reach their intended target. From the WSJ:

Again, what do either of those have to do with the boom times of the 90s?

The Morgan Stanley loss was in 2010. Remember what was going on during that period? It was in all the papers. It was the exact opposite of a boom time.

And no, Morgan Stanley is not full of smart people. Those are the people who crashed the world's economies.

Trump brags about how smart he is for losing a billion dollars. I think that is one of the most hilarious things he has said out of the hundreds of lies and bullshit he has shoveled in the past 15 months.

Bullshit, the loss wasn't even on the public radar when he made that statement, it didn't come out till after the debate. Stop trying to rewrite history.

Oh, wow. This is probably the dumbest thing I have ever heard you say! And that's really saying something.

The New York Times story was all about Trump declaring a billion dollar loss on his taxes, you damn fool!

Trump's response was to say it made him smart.

You get the gold star on the forehead for best rationalization of the week

No rationalization, the smart statement was made during the debate, the loss came to the publics attention after the debate.

He's still saying it now, after The NY Times piece, that he's a "genius" for not paying taxes. He's having his ballgagged sex slaves Giuliani and Christie say it. Jesus, catch the fuck up.
