On Wednesday, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei declared AI could eliminate half of all entry level white collar jobs within five years. Last week, a senior LinkedIn executive reported that AI is already starting to take jobs from new grads. In April, Fiverr’s CEO made it clear: “AI is coming for your job. Heck, it’s coming for my job too.” Even the new Pope is warning about AI’s dramatic potential to reshape our economy.

Why do they think this?

The stated goal of the major AI companies is to build artificial general intelligence, or AGI, defined as “a highly autonomous system that outperforms humans at most economically valuable work.”

Is your job at risk? Mine isn't, I work in construction. AI is destined to replace most jobs? Why? In my opinion, government making the cost of Labour too high with the Lefty Utopian minimum wage idea. Your thoughts.

I’ve been going self checkout 98% since 09’ watching pennies and taking care of purchaces. I’ve become a world class shopper.

Rarely am I so tired or lazy or feeling rich to go to the lighted registers and deal with it. Or with a big cart full, I may go there as it is so overwhelming. Still have to unload it in some reasonable order. Smashed goods, can’t see to verify the price ring up, etc.

But having checkout is easier….if I don’t care.

There was a short Sci Fi story about the world having everything made from Artificial Intelligence, Artificial Lifeforms and Machines. All citizens had endless products for themselves. They had to use the products enough and then get new ones. Including food also. An example. A new car was given, and they had to drive it around so many miles. Then they got a new one. Everything they did was the same way. If they did not keep up, they were punished. Constantly using what they got. It was a society that kept people like "having everything slaves".

In all honesty, I think most of this is overhyped bullshit.

Just like automation was.

Back in the 20teens everyone was constantly saying the death of the factory worker was right around the corner.

Turned out we just didn't have enough factories.

That's being remedied.
