I have been studying near death experience accounts since 1990 and I personally feel that I am totally unqualified to debate or argue vehemently with any of these people who had one of these brushes with death. Often it seems that they have been sent back into four dimensional space - time with a message for all of us.

For example former Atheist and near death experiencer Mellen Thomas Benedict, [who has now passed on into the afterlife again], had his brush with death in 1982 and he left all of us with a message that has off the scale artistic value, diplomatic value, educational value and yes, even economic value, because if we religious people will stop fighting each other and ask each other some relevant questions, and then listen to each other, we may just find out that what we were fighting about in the past may not be something that should produce a lot of theological conflict.

It is my belief that these people who have a brush with death have mostly all became like King Solomon in comparison to the rest of us who have not had one of these transcendent experiences.

I admit that the background that each of these near death experiencers take into their NDE can have an effect on how their trip into the higher dimensions tends to go. For example former Atheist Mellen Benedict is shocked to find his consciousness somehow separated from his physical body. Essentially he sees a glimmer of light and he assumes that this would be a good place to get some of his questions answered. As Mellen meets with the Being of Light of near death experience fame all of his questions about this life receive an off the scale brilliant answer that does not cause Mellen Benedict to specifically pick one religion but instead he gave a message that has the power to begin a positive shift in all religious systems toward finding common ground so that we can begin to work together.

[Mellen Thomas Benedict] :

10. What Is the Best Religion?

I asked God: “What is the best religion on the planet? Which one is right?” And Godhead said, with great love: “I don’t care.” That was incredible grace.

They come and they go, they change. Buddhism has not been here forever, Catholicism has not been here forever, and they are all about to become more enlightened. More light is coming into all systems now. There is going to be a reformation in spirituality that is going to be just as dramatic as the Protestant Reformation. There will be lots of people fighting about it, one religion against the next, believing that only they are right.

Everyone thinks they own God, the religions and philosophies, especially the religions, because they form big organizations around their philosophy. When Godhead said, “I don’t care,” I immediately understood that it is for us to care about. It is important, because we are the caring beings. It matters to us and that is where it is important. What you have is the energy equation in spirituality. Ultimate Godhead does not care if you are Protestant, Buddhist, or whatever. It is all a blooming facet of the whole. I wish that all religions would realize it and let each other be. It is not the end of each religion, but we are talking about the same God. Live and let live. Each has a different view. And it all adds up to the Big Picture; it is all important." [Mellen Thomas Benedict ]

I have to admit that this statement by near death experiencer Mellen Thomas Benedict kind of offended me at first because I personally cared so much about spirituality that at first I could not visualize a Creator Who had figured out a way to judge us and review our lives with us in spite of our differences in religion.

I took me a lot of research into many near death experience accounts as well as into several major religions, before I could get my head around this idea.

Do you believe in reincarnation?
I don't know for certain how to explain the verses in the Bible about it and compare them with the Dr. Ian Stevenson research but I am pretty sure that the connection is there somehow.

Dr. Stevenson’s reincarnation research began in 1960 when he learned of a case in Sri Lanka where a child reported remembering a past life. He thoroughly questioned the child and the child’s parents, including the people whom the child recalled were his parents from his past life. This led to Dr. Stevenson’s conviction that reincarnation was possibly a reality. That same year, Dr. Stevenson published two articles in the Journal of the American Society for Psychical Research about this child who remembered having a past life. The more such cases he discovered, the greater became his ambition to scientifically quantify the possibility of reincarnation – one of the world’s greatest mysteries – which had been virtually ignored by science in the past.

Here are some of the verses in the Bible that I believe will turn out to fit perfectly with Dr. Ian Stevenson's research.

And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of man is raised from the dead.” 10 And the disciples asked him, “Then why do the scribes say that first Eli′jah must come?” 11;He replied, “Eli′jah does come, and he is to restore all things; 12;but I tell you that Eli′jah has already come, and they did not know him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of man will suffer at their hands.” Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.

[Matthew 17]

As a Christian I don't believe the supposed response "I don't care" as to the question "What is the best religion?". To believe that our creator and Heavenly Father doesn't care is to believe that following the Son, Jesus, is irrelevant.

That is exactly what I thought at first but as I dig into more and more of this kind of information I gradually feel that our level of understanding of what is happening does not prevent Messiah Yeshua - Jesus from judging us and even sending us back on an important mission.

For example former Atheist and near death experiencer Rabbi Alon Anava is commanded to live as a Jew during his seven minute near death experience. His actual NDE reminds me of Matthew chapter four and his teachings since his 2001 NDE remind me of Matthew chapters five, six and seven, [the Sermon on the Mount].

If Messiah Yeshua - Jesus had fully revealed Himself to Rabbi Alon Anava he would be unable to do the amazing work that he has been doing all over the world in synagogues.

www.AlonAnava.com/

Rabbi Alon Anava was born and raised in Israel. He grew up in Ra’anana in a very secular family without any Torah education or knowledge. He grew up hating religion and anything that had to do with it. He did not believe in G-od and the Torah and lived life as a secular Jew. In 1998, he moved to New York and soon after, on a very special day, the morning of Passover 2001 he had a Near Death Experience due to a sudden cardiac arrest. This event has changed his life for the GOOD!!!

Before his life-altering experience, Alon would describe himself as simply put, ‘not a nice guy..’ but after facing death, and realizing the purpose of life, Alon transformed his very being and since then dedicates his life to serving G-od and Torah observance. Soon After his Near Death Experience he diligently attended Yeshiva studying every day, exploring the depths of Torah, refining and elevating himself on a daily basis for over a decade. Rabbi Alon Anava attended his Rabbinical studies at Yeshivah Kol Ya’akov – Hadar Hatorah in Brooklyn, New York.

After seven years of Yeshivah studies, Rabbi Anava started sharing his Near Death Experience with the public lecturing all around the world at Schools, Synagogues, Yeshivahs, outreach programs and organizations, private sessions and much more, reaching tens of thousands of people at over 2,500 lectures in the past fifteen years. In the past 8 years Rabbi Anava has expanded his out reach efforts through the internet reaching tens of thousands of people resulting with over 500,000 followers worldwide on the internet and social networks. With over 25,000,000 views to his videos, over 1,000,000 DVDs and CDs distributed, his followers enjoy daily Torah studying on his websites, social networks, videos, podcasts, live streaming and live Torah classes and lectures. Rabbi Anava’s followers enjoy his undivided attention through daily phone calls, skype meetings, personal and group meetings along with coaching and assistance. Rabbi Anava and his wife opens their home for hundreds of guests that enjoy their warm and loving hospitality and uplifting Shabbat and holiday meals.

Alon Anava beforeAlon has come back with a gift. He is able to connect to our creator in a very intimate way, allowing him to also connect intimately with others and really help them overcome their questions and concerns and lead and teach them to the right path of Torah observance.

Alon devotes his life to spreading G-od wisdom by teaching Torah every day at lectures, seminars, home gatherings, schools etc., and sharing his personal life changing experience all over the world. He spends his time sharing his story in an attempt to make it as real for you as it is for him. Our hope is that you as the listener will absorb Alon’s story and wake up to the reality of this world. We hope that you will have the strength within you to rise above what seems like the prevailing darkness and choose light. We encourage you to connect to your maker and begin your spiritual journey to better yourself and humanity as a whole. We encourage you to see the miracle of you!

I believe reincarnation is probable from various reading over the years. I think that Jewish and Christians can see hints of it in both the Old and New Testaments but only vague references. The men who put together these texts and yes I said men who decided which text got to be in the bibles..........did not want common followers to know the truth. The truth about reincarnation would lessen their grip.... lessen their control over the followers. Knowing one has more than one chance to reach Heaven (Nirvana) takes away the ironclad hold leaders of the churches have over the parishioners.

That is exactly what I thought at first...

I believe that ALL will eventually be in God's Kingdom. There are a gazillion different religions and theologies. I enjoy religious and doctrinal discussion but, in the end, the verses below is what I believe and try to follow.

Matthew 7:21
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

John 14:15
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

Matthew 22:36-40
Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

John 13:34
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

Galatians 5:13-14
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Yes, an online friend of mine who had had their first death experience in 1966 explained to me clearly why the Roman Emperors would not allow the Roman Catholic Bishops to teach all tha they knew about this topic.

[Bruce Fraser MacDonald Ph. D.] :

"
"Thank you ,Dennis. An awareness of reincarnation is very important. When I was channelling the book, "The Thomas Book: Near Death, a Quest and a New Gospel by the Twin Brother of Jesus," I was constantly made aware of the importance of reincarnation to Jesus and to the early Christians. There are very important lessons about reincarnation in The Thomas Book, and the way it was written depends on the reality of reincarnation. A modern direct descendent of Jesus' teachings about reincarnation can be found in the Coptic Church in Egypt, which claims it drew its original teachings from St. Mark, who received his teachings from Jesus. They assert that reincarnation was one of the central teachings of Jesus himself, but that it was wiped out of the wider church by some of the later Roman emperors because those rulers did not want to think that they might be born as lesser beings sometime in the future. The emperors, in their pride, did not want to believe Jesus' teaching that "you reap what you sow," and that they might have to face the consequences of their actions in a future life. They wanted to be in the position where they answered to no one for their actions, as when they were emperors, so insisted that the Bishops pass a law that they would go directly to heaven instead of being reincarnated to face the consequences of their often cruel actions.

The first century Jewish historian, Josephus, says that the Pharisees and the Essenes believed in reincarnation. Since Jesus spent much time with the Essenes in his early life, it is natural that he would preach reincarnation. When I was told by Kevin Ryerson, one of the foremost trance channels in the United States, that I was the reincarnation of Judas Thomas, the twin brother of Jesus, it was a great shock in a way, even though I had been told by Jesus, when I was channelling the Thomas gospel in the early 1980s, that I was the reincarnation of Judas Thomas, and that was why I could write the gospel which came from him. To have this confirmed by someone with the stature of Kevin made it seem more striking in the modern world. By the way, for those who wonder about Jesus having a twin brother, there was an early and wide spread belief in this twin brother of Jesus (also wiped out by some of the people in power in the early Roman church) as can be found in "The Acts of Thomas," "The Book of Thomas the Contender," "The Gospel of Thomas" and "The Song of the Pearl" (all available on the internet).

Reincarnation was replaced with a belief in hell, which was a later, non-Christian teaching which found its way into the early Christian church. According to Jesus' teachings about reincarnation, facing the consequences of our actions in future lives is how we are "rewarded or punished" for what we do, and so, as Barbro Karlen says, we make our own heaven or hell.. But none of it is "punishment," even though it might seem like it is. When we face challenges or suffering in our life, it is a way for us to learn the consequences of earlier action -- it is not punishment. And it is the best way to learn. If we have caused suffering for others in the past, we need to learn what that suffering feels like so that we can decide not to do that again. As Edgar Cayce, the famous American "Sleeping Prophet" from the early 20th century says, "We must experience in our own soul what we have brought into the lives of others." That way we learn that bringing love and compassion and joy and peace into the lives of others brings the same to us, and bringing hatred and fear and pain into the lives of others brings the same to us. When Jesus said, "Do unto others what you would want done to you," he is reflecting this idea, because what we do to others is what will be done to us.

Of course suffering is not always punishment. Sometimes we choose to face challenges in our lives in order to strengthen our faith or our compassion or our understanding in some way. And sometimes advanced souls choose to be incarnated as poor people or beggers or others low in the estimation of the world, in order for us to realize that our negative judgement of the "least of these our brothers and sisters," may be all wrong, because, as Jesus puts it, these may actually be Jesus or some other advanced soul incarnate to teach us about the nature of love and compassion. (If people want to read more about this they can go to

After a lot of research that is exactly the same conclusion that I arrived at as well. There are some really scary realms in the afterlife but if we learn to love we do not even have to see them. I believe that Messiah Yeshua - Jesus went to hell for three days and three nights on our behalf, so that He would have the full authority to take us up out of the scary Purgatory or Hell realms when we truly repent and have a change of heart. I do believe though that it is a terribly unwise idea to leave spirituality until close to the time of our deaths. I believe we should all begin to pray and talk to our Creator today. I pray a lot and I have gotten amazing answers to prayer.

[John J. Davis, near death experiencer ] :

Wildflower Meadow

Here’s the last part of my near-death experience. My guide took me to what I can only describe as an absolutely beautiful meadow. There were rolling hills, beautiful flowers, green grass. It was a perfect day.

And then my guide left. I thought I was standing there by myself, and then, all of a sudden, a man showed up in front of me. Nobody told me it was him; I just knew that it was Jesus. He was different from everyone else. I could see his hands, and I could see his feet. I could see what he was wearing. He had a white robe on with a golden sash around his waist, and he had gold-colored sandals that laced up his calves, but he was so bright I couldn’t make out his facial features. Jesus had so much energy and so much light that was pouring out of him.

He said something to me, and it is something I have tried to do my entire life since then. It was like my assignment somehow. Jesus said, “You must tell them there is no death.”

Right after he said those words, I immediately woke up back in the hospital room. I asked the surgeon what happened, and he said, “We lost you. You were gone for seven minutes.”

Ever since then, I’ve been doing what Jesus asked me to do. I’ve been telling people that something happens after we pass, and it’s something absolutely beautiful. There is so much hope and so much joy, which we forget about here because life can be very hard.

There are a lot of hard times in life, and we are not supposed to remember the other side. But when you see someone who has had these experiences, it gives you hope. There is a reason for all of this. It’s all real, and we live for eternity. There is really no end. When people cross over and leave us here, they are not gone from us—we will see them again.

Who knows...

The Light is in no hurry...The Light can wait.
True, having already lived through infinite time in the past does tend to make an Intelligence very patient. On the other hand our Creator wants us to have the best life possible, as quickly as possible, so that we can pass truth and love and blessings on to others.

On the other hand our Creator wants us to have the best life possible...
I guess it depends on how "best" is defined and in what life does he want it for us, the one here on Earth or the one in the hereafter? I believe this life involves many hardships that refine us for an amazing and forever life in his Kingdom.

True, our difficulties and even our errors seem to better prepare us to be able to encourage others even better than the things that we got right in this life.

There are people born into crippled bodies and brains that don't function normally. Many are trapped there for decades. To me that's a horrible fate but I have faith in God's plan.

Yes, near death experiencer Dannion Brinkley in at least one of his four brushes with death was shown that only the most courageous and philosophically developed souls will volunteer to incarnate into the body of a child destined to be crippled or have a serious illness.

It sounds like Dannion communicates with familiar spirits. That's a big no-no.

I actually agree with you but Jesus did not reveal Himself to Dannion quite like He revealed Himself to other near death experiencers. I don't know the why, but I suspect it was so that Dannion could reach out to a much larger group of people than he could probably do if he had met Jesus face to face.

I do believe that Dannion has prepared millions of people to be more willing to take the Bible seriously. His prediction that sounds a lot like the Mark of the Beast to me is very interesting.

[Dannion Brinkley] :

BOX 12: Technology & Virus

The 11th box was gone & I was into the 12th box. Its visions addressed an important event in the distant future, the decade of the 90's (remember, this was 1975), when many of the great changes would take place. In this box, I watched as a biological engineer from the Middle East found a way to alter DNA & create a biological virus that would be used in the manufacture of computer chips. This discovery allowed for huge strides in science & technology. Japan, China, & other countries of the Pacific Rim experienced boom times as a result of this discovery & became powers of incredible magnitude. Computer chips produced from this process found their way into virtually every form of technology, from cars & airplanes to vacuum cleaners & blenders.

Before the turn of the century, this man was among the richest in the world, so rich that he had a stranglehold on the world economy. Still the world welcomed him, since the computer chips he had designed somehow put the world on an even keel. Gradually, he succumbed to his own power. He began to think of himself as a deity & insisted on greater control of the world. With that extra control, he began to rule the world.

His method of rule was unique. Everyone in the world was mandated by law to have one of his computer chips inserted underneath his or her skin. This chip contained all of an individual's personal information. If a government agency wanted to know something, all it had to do was scan your chip with a special device. By doing so, it could discover everything about you, from where you worked & lived to your medical records & even what kind of illnesses you might get in the future.

There was an even more sinister side to this chip. A person's lifetime could be limited by programming this chip to dissolve & kill him with the viral substance it was made from. Lifetimes were controlled like this to avoid the cost that growing old places on the government. It was also used as a means of eliminating people with chronic illnesses that put a drain on the medical system. People who refused to have chips implanted in their bodies roamed as outcasts. They could not be employed & were denied government services."

I watched the video of the Rabbis NDE.
It was interesting how he weaved his experience into a story he uses to convert nonpracticing Jews to Orthodox practice. The key component he uses is FEAR. He manipulates non-religious Jews to come back to Rabbinic Judaism through fear of dying and going to an eternity in Hell, as he experienced in his NDE.

I posit this AI search as an addendum to what this Rabbi is doing as opposed to the Judaism at the time of Jesus.

Judaism during the time of Jesus (1st century CE) differed significantly from modern Orthodox Judaism in structure, practice, and religious focus.

### 1. Temple-Centered Worship vs. Synagogue and Prayer
  • At the time of Jesus, Judaism was centered on the Temple in Jerusalem, where animal sacrifices and priestly rituals were the primary forms of worship. The Sadducees, who were the priestly class, controlled Temple activities.
  • After the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE, sacrificial worship ended. Rabbinic Judaism emerged, replacing Temple rituals with prayer, Torah study, and synagogue worship, forming the foundation of modern Orthodox practice.

### 2. Religious Authority and Sects
  • In Jesus’ time, multiple Jewish sects existed, including the Pharisees, Sadducees, Essenes, and Zealots, each with different beliefs and practices.
  • The Pharisees emphasized oral traditions and ritual purity and were the spiritual ancestors of Rabbinic Judaism. After 70 CE, with the Sadducees gone, Pharisaic traditions evolved into Rabbinic Judaism, which is the basis of modern Orthodoxy.

### 3. Oral Law and the Talmud
  • The Oral Torah, which the Pharisees upheld, was not yet compiled. The Talmud—a central text in Orthodox Judaism—was developed centuries later (completed around 500–600 CE).
  • Modern Orthodox Judaism is deeply rooted in Talmudic law and rabbinic interpretation, which did not exist in Jesus’ time in written form.

### 4. Messianic Expectations
  • Many Jews in the 1st century expected a political or military Messiah who would liberate Israel from Roman rule. Jesus’ followers believed he was the Messiah, but mainstream Judaism rejected this.
  • Today, Orthodox Jews still await the Messiah, but the concept is more spiritual and eschatological, shaped by centuries of rabbinic thought.

### 5. Religious Practice and Daily Life
  • Ancient Judaism focused on Temple rites, pilgrimage festivals, and priestly duties.
  • Modern Orthodox Judaism emphasizes daily prayer, kosher laws, Shabbat observance, and detailed halakhic (Jewish legal) rulings, all systematized by rabbis after the Temple’s destruction.

In summary, while modern Orthodox Judaism traces its roots to the Pharisees of Jesus’ time, it is a post-Temple, rabbinically developed religion that differs fundamentally in practice and structure from 1st-century Judaism.
