This is congresswoman Jayapal, smugly making the point over and over that "if you want to govern, you need these Democratic votes."
Eh . . .
Let's remember what she is talking about. The Repubs do not need a supermajority to pass a CR. They would need a supermajority to vote cluture to stop the filibuster that Dems are threatening which would be their weapon as the minority party to stall the CR vote and thus defund the government as if midnight tomorrow.
But . . . the Republicans only need a simple majority to change the rule and allow for cloture with a simple majority for a CR. They might specify it be a clean CR, as this one is.
If I recall correctly, each party has used this so-called "nuclear option" to force a work around of a filibuster. Republicans could do that this time and say that, hey! The Democrats taunted us for not being able to pass the CR even though we are in the majority, so we used the majority.
BTW, is that how Jayapal always looks? I relly don't remember, but I guess the media usually avoid such unflattering close ups.
