Is it safe to suggest that those who are hyper-political, regardless of which side they relate to; are essentially zombies?

If someone suggests they are a "based Conservative", a "woke Liberal", or an "unrelenting libertarian", are these people effectively zombies and useful idiots?

In the world in which science and objectivity should always be applied, I must say that I believe this to be true if someone is unable or unwilling to consider a different perspective on an issue. Furthermore what is defined as "conservative" drastically changed over time. Consider a Conservative from the 1990s (or a Democrat for that matter), they were far more converged in general philosophy but both were more far right. Conservatism was ubiquitous with being against gay marriage or legalizing weed, whereas today, especially where young Conservatives are concerned; they have little to no issue with these positions.

Thus, it must be stated that in my opinion the rigid and inflexible cheerleaders are worse for liberty than those who are willing switch positions when it appeal more to their sensibilities.

Agree or disagree?

I would tend to agree.

Except I view them as religious zealots or members of a tribe. We need to get away from that.

Zombies? Probably not but TDS fits the diagnosis.
The left vs right debate is disheartening when both sides seem eager and willing to undermine your own principles if it will hurt the other side.

Was the U.S more united at one point or is it a matter of the classic division now being openly documented due to social media and such?

It's a good point..... One worth studying for sure.

I read an article about early elections right after Nevada became a state. People were actually shot and killed at the voting places.
